5 Celebrity Memoirs to Read After ‘Spare’

I have always been deeply fascinated with celebrities, in general, and our parasocial relationship with them, specifically. I blame my 15+ year obsession with the Kardashians. Yes, I have seen every single one of their reality show episodes, including all the spinoffs. No, I am not ashamed.

I recently reviewed Prince Harry’s memoir Spare. If you are like me and like to nibble at the gossip, drama, and behind the scenes tea of the rich and famous, here are 5 celebrity memoirs to really butter your crispy flake.

Randy is the internet celeb you have definitely seen but probably don’t know anything about. His political spoof videos set to the tune of musical theater songs are insanely popular on all social media platforms.

Chronicling his time as a gay theater kid to his rise of internet stardom, he tells his story with such wit and humor I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish. If you want lighthearted, funny, and all-around a fun read, go for this.

Stan my man! In my mind his name is actually Caesar Flickerman, but I was willing to pretend he’s just plain ol’ Stanley for a little while.

He shares his personal life history through the lens of food—from growing up with his family around the dinner table, to film sets, and his battle with tongue cancer that left him unable to eat.

Maybe don’t read it while hungry–he gives detailed, mouthwatering descriptions of meals and shares entire recipes!

If you want a really delicious treat, listen to the audiobook. Stanley narrates it himself.

This book won the award for Most Surprising Book of 2022. Sorry to admit this, but I went into it with no expectations, just as a “sure, why not, I guess I’ll try it”.

Then I was blown away by how honest and moving it was.

In a society obsessed with looks and being attractive is considered the ultimate gateway for success and happiness, model Emily Ratajkowski dares to show that being insanely hot actually has its downsides.

These essays explore the commodification and treatment of women and our culture's fetishization of female beauty. Her honesty was real and the ending was powerful.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, you would have seen this book absolutely everywhere the last half of 2022. Everyone and their mother and their chiropractor seemed to have read it and for good reason– it really was that good.

You don’t have to be a fan of the iCarly alum to be completely sucked into the behind-the-scenes world of child actors. But if you do go into it with at least some general knowledge of her time as a Nickelodean star, it feels like an older cousin finally revealing deep family secrets. Wait, that's what really happened?!

Buzzy, book review words like “unputdownable” feel so overplayed that they don’t even mean anything anymore, however this book honestly was the definition of unputdownable– I read it in less than 48 hours. Short, 2-3 page vignette-style chapter entries made for a fast-paced reading experience with an easy to follow yet still gripping flow.

You probably have never heard of Barack (pronounced Buh-rock) before. He is a small, lesser-known politician from Hawaii. Not sure why the publisher gave him a book deal, that was really a gamble on their part.

But in all seriousness, was it incredibly dense? Yes. Was it insanely detailed? Yes. Was it also just genuinely interesting?

Absolutely.

Admittedly, I was unaware this was the first of a two-part series, so I went into it expecting the tea on the 2016 election. So, imagine my surprise when it was page 600 and he was STILL talking about 2009. It ends with the Bin Laden raid, so there's lots of ground to cover in the next one and I honestly can’t wait.
